Many men and women suffer from having extra loose skin that impairs their abdominal profile. This loose skin can be caused by a variety of reasons like weight loss, aging, genetic laxity, or pregnancy. It can make many people feel uncomfortable and self-conscious, especially during the summer months. To help our patients feel confident we offer the tummy tuck procedure here at Cosmetica Plastic Surgery & Anti-Aging to create a slim abdomen.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

The tummy tuck procedure professionally referred to as abdominoplasty, helps to contour the abdominal area by getting rid of excess skin or fat and restoring weakened muscles. Resulting in an abdominal profile that is slim, smooth, and firm. The abdominal skin can become loose over time through many different factors. This procedure is very popular following pregnancy or massive weight loss. Patients who undergo a tummy tuck procedure typically have tried to improve their abdominal area through diet and exercise but cannot get rid of excess skin, fat, or stretch marks. The tummy tuck procedure benefits these patients by giving them the slim look that they desire.

Tummy Tuck Options:

The tummy tuck procedure has multiple options that address individual concerns for all patients. To know which procedure would be the best option, patients should consult with Dr. Vinas at Cosmetica Plastic Surgery & Anti-Aging. The different options for a tummy tuck are:

The incisions for this procedure are made across the lower abdomen and around the navel. The excess skin in the abdomen is removed, then the muscles are tightened as well. Liposuction techniques may be used to help contour the abdomen. This type of tummy tuck helps patients who have had their profile compromised from pregnancies, obesity or genetic laxity of the skin.

This type of incision is made in the pubic area of the abdomen. The incision could range from being a few inches to the entire span of the abdomen. The surgeon will remove excess skin, tighten the muscles, and might use liposuction to help contour the area. This is ideal for patients who have some laxity in the abdomen but have always been in good shape.

These incisions are made longer than traditional tummy tuck incisions to address the hip area. It is ideal for patients who have excess skin on the love handles. This procedure uses the deeper skin tissue to support the repair.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

For optimal comfort, the tummy tuck procedure is usually done under general anesthesia. During the surgery, your surgeon will make the incisions for the type of tummy tuck chosen for your treatment. The excess skin is removed, then, if needed, excess fat can be removed with liposuction. Any slack or weakened muscles are tightened, afterward, the skin is re-draped over the abdominal area and the navel is repositioned. This creates the immediate slim, firm abdomen look that is desired.

What do I do before the procedure?

You will need to be off blood thinners and ensure that your blood pressure is well controlled. You may require medical clearance from your family doctor depending on your age & your health.

What type of anesthesia is used?

IV sedation is used along with numbing medicine instilled into the areas being treated. This numbs the nerves, loosens the fat & constricts blood vessels, making this procedure well tolerated and safer than general anesthesia.

How is the procedure performed?

After instilling a local anesthetic into your areas to be treated, Dr. Vinas will wait about ½ hour before starting the procedure. During this waiting period, the areas will become numb. Liposuction may precede removal of excess skin and muscle tightening.

How painful is it?

There will be some pain requiring the use of a narcotic for the first several days.

Tummy Tuck Recovery
