A labiaplasty procedure, also called vaginal rejuvenation, helps to recreate the vaginal area by reducing the length of the labia minora. The labiaplasty procedure has become increasingly popular for women after giving childbirth to help rejuvenate the look of their vaginal region. It helps women who feel self-conscious about the appearance of their genitalia or have any discomfort or pain associated with their genitalia.
Enlarged labia minora may be congenital or it may develop after pregnancy. Loose vaginal tone is typically the result of vaginal births. Labiaplasty removes excess tissue from the labia minora (outer vaginal lips) while vaginoplasty removes excess tissue & tightens the vagina & surrounding muscles.
Women who want to undergo a labiaplasty may not know exactly what areas can be worked on to give them comfort and confidence in their genitalia. Some women experience discomfort during sex or activities such as bike riding and will want rejuvenation done to the vaginal region. During the consultation appointment with Dr. Vinas, it is important that he understands exactly what discomfort you experience or what makes you feel self-conscious so that he can create a personalized treatment plan. The different options for this treatment are:
- Reduction of the labia minor: reduces size and protrusion
- Reduction or augmentation of the labia majora: removes excess skin and tissue from the outer lips of the vulva
- Clitoral hood remodeling: Removes excess tissue overlying the clitoris
- Mons pubis reduction: Excess bulk of this area can be disproportionate to the rest of your body
Many women have different reasons for considering a labiaplasty procedure. By discussing it with our board-certified plastic surgeon, he will help you to know how this procedure could benefit you. Some common reasons women have for considering labiaplasty are:
- The structures of the vagina have become lax and started to sag.
- You have urinary stress incontinence
- You have discomfort in the vaginal region from previous genital surgeries
- You want a more refined contour to the labia and vulva.
The labiaplasty procedure is done under either oral sedation or general sedation to reduce any pain or discomfort for patients. The comfort of patients is extremely important to the team at Cosmetica Plastic Surgery & Anti-Aging which is why we give you multiple options for sedation, as well as any information you need to make sure you are informed about the procedure. Typically, this procedure uses small incisions where excess tissue is and can be removed, then sewn up directly. This removal of excess tissue is what helps to contour the vagina and comfort for women.
You will feel more self-confident! You & your partner will enjoy a more fulfilling sexual experience if you have been troubled by enlarged labia tissue.
Your procedure will take place safely & comfortably as an outpatient in Dr. Vinas’s AAAHC accredited facility, adjoining the office. There’s a small risk of bleeding, especially if you have not stopped Aspirin & NSAID’S before the procedure.
The cost depends on how involved your procedure is. The charge for a unilateral labial reduction is less than the charge for a bilateral procedure. We offer competitive pricing when compared with similarly trained physicians in our area.
You will need to be off blood thinners and ensure that your blood pressure is well controlled. You may require medical clearance from your family doctor depending on your age & your health.
You will enjoy the IV sedation you will receive from Dr. Vinas’s RN during this procedure. Local anesthetic further minimizes discomfort and blood loss.
After adequate IV sedation, the areas will be numbed with a local anesthetic. With labiaplasty, the excess labial tissue will be removed. Absorbable sutures are used to close the skin so no sutures will need to be removed.
These procedures are typically not very painful although there will be some pain requiring the use of a narcotic for the first day or two days.
To ensure that patients are informed and prepared for the recovery period, we will provide complete instructions for pre-operative and post-operative care. The labiaplasty procedure often leaves women with some minor swelling and discomfort for a few days following the procedure. Most women return to normal daily activities after a week of rest. It is good to note that the use of tampons or any sexual intercourse cannot be resumed until cleared by a doctor, which usually takes about four to six weeks.
You will need to apply ice & take it easy and avoid tub baths & anything strenuous for several weeks. You will also need to avoid intercourse for 6 weeks.
